President’s Letter

Just a reminder to mark your calendars for Saturday, July 19th.  The summer Grand Gathering will be at Tigard UMC from 9:00 to 3:00 and lunch will be available.  We will have the opportunity to experience first hand the Walk to Emmaus Nashville model. Mack McKinney from Anaconda, MT, will be here to “walk” us through the model. Here is a chance to see and ask questions about what is different from the way we have conducted Walks and what the model offers our community.  In addition, there will be plenty of fellowship, music, and information regarding the responsibilities and job descriptions on the Walk to Emmaus.

We are not changing the format of the 2003 Fall Walks.  They are in the preparation stages and making changes in a timely manner is not possible.  The first potential Walk using parts of the Nashville model would be the Winter 2004 Walks.  (Feb and Mar 2004).

The Board has been working with John Whittemore, the Western Regional Representative for our area. We met with him on May 9th and 10th at Salmon Creek UMC. He has since mailed us a list of suggested changes that would, over a period of time, bring us closer to compliance with the Emmaus model.

These are important issues before the Oregon Trails Walk to Emmaus Community. We, as a Board, want to keep you informed. Please plan to attend the Grand Gathering and have a great time.

               A fellow servant in Christ, Ron Wagar, President      360-254-8818;  rwagar(at)pacifier.com

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 We NEED your application to Work!  The OTWTE bylaws place responsibility for conducting Walks on the shoulders of the Board of Directors the Community elects to serve in that fashion.  We need your help.  When the Board recruits Lay and Spiritual Directors to head up a Walk, those Directors need a cadre of names to choose from to populate the Inn & BG teams.  No Walk happens without a completed Inn & BG team made up of qualified workers.  If you can work a Walk any time in the next year or two, please fill out an application and mail it to the OTWTE mailbox.  You’ll find the application with the address elsewhere in this Rooster Booster.  If you are a clergy and can only work one Walk a year in a specific season- please indicate that on the application.  The Team Selection committee will hold that app open until you indicate otherwise. If anyone wants to work a specific Walk, say Fall of 2004, send in your app now.  You may pay your fee closer to the time you work rather than when applying.  We need to hear from you soon.  Jay Gregory, President – Elect.
Emmaus Songbook Under Construction- By Duane Sich
Yes, as there are detours and bumps in the roads when city streets and highways are repaired, so there will probably be some “bumps and bummers” as the Emmaus songbook is being revised.  The Board has authorized the revision of the songbook.  The goals are, first, to maintain and secure a wide variety of inspirational and biblically based praises within the songbook, and, second, to make the songbook more readily available to the larger Emmaus Community.  Thus, in addition to the wonderful and worshipful music at the Walks, the hope is that reunion groups will more easily be able to access and use the songbooks at regular meetings.   Here’s how it is scheduled to happen.  First, all non-CCLI (Copyright License) songs will be eliminated.  That’ll be a ‘bump in the road’ because every song in the book is somebody’s favorite.  However, next, (Good News!) we’ll be adding some new songs besides just Walk theme songs.  That’s where the community comes in.  We invite community members to submit selections for the song team committee to consider.  Here’s how: 1) All submitted songs must be CCLI;   2) Send in your selection, with guitar chords, musical score and if you are able, a tape or CD;  3) Send your selection in care of Sue Kitchin , 9301 NE 87th St. Vancouver, WA  98662; or 4) bring your selection to the July 19th Gathering in Tigard.  Committee members are as follows: Sue Kitchin, Debbie Day, John Rahm, Patti Risdal, Tom James and Duane Sich.  Feel free to contact us for info or questions.
So your church could host a Walk?
Your local church could be a fine place to hold a Walk.  Trouble is… the OTWTE Board does not yet know it.  How do we change that?  Drop me a note through the OTWTE mailbox, send me an email at utilboss(at)adelphia.net or get on the horn and call 360-636-0864 (Longview).  I will answer your note, email or call and start the process rolling that puts your church on the Board’s host facility list.    Jay Gregory, Site Selection Committee Chair
Boy’s Chrysalis #11 “Holy, Holy, Holy”  Aug. 7-10, 2003   Tigard UMC
“Holy, Holy is our God Almighty”! The Newsboys sing it well in their song “It is You”… the theme song for the next Boy’s Flight.  My son, Daniel, is the Youth ALD and we praise God for the strong team He has put together. While many positions are full, we still have some openings YOU could fill.  Please consider being a part of the Clergy team, preparing a talk, or being a table leader.  We are looking for both youth and adults. We also need a Saturday Love Chair.  MOST of all we need you to sponsor young men who are ready to experience the Holiness of God and renew their relationship with Jesus.   Keep praying!  Fly with Christ, Bill Keese  541-929-6601  william.keese(at)hp.com
Girl’s Chrysalis #19  “You’re All I Want”   Aug. 14-17, 2003  Tigard UMC
Greetings! I am honored to be the Lay Director of the Girl’s Chrysalis # 19.  The theme is from the song “Draw Me Close”. Kristi Van Nostran is going to be the Youth ALD.  The teams are still being put together so it is not too late to send in work applications.  We still need a youth speaker, adult and youth table leaders, recorder, Candlelight and Sunday Love Chairs, BG Clergy, Logistics Coordinator and youth and adults on the BG teams.  If you know of any young lady who would be interested in joining us, please send in an application and sign her up!
Men’s Walk #57  “Reign in Me”   Oct. 23-26, 2003  Vancouver First UMC
PRAISE THE LORD!  Love to all from God’s servants, Mike and Rick.  We got off to a late start but by the guiding Hand of God we are on our way to a great Walk.  We need 2 Speakers and Backups but we are in good shape for people in the Background.  Then, of course, we can always use people on the Love Teams.  What a Blessing to have been chosen to be in this position under GOD’S HANDS.
Under the Ever-Present hand of God,
Mike Jordan, LD  360-892-2193   spike_jordan(at)msn.com
Women’s Walk #57  “The Potter’s Hand”  Nov. 6-9, 2003   Vancouver First UMC
With the Lord’s help we are in the planning stages for the Women’s Fall Walk.  Most of the teams are full and they have begun to meet.  There are still opportunities to work Saturday and Sunday Love Teams so please prayerfully consider serving in this way.  Also, now is the time to consider sponsorship.  Be in prayer and allow the Potter to gently call you into action as well as mold you into a vessel useful for His purpose.  Please contact Barb or me if you would like to serve  on the Love Teams or have any questions.
