PRESIDENT'S LETTER

 To the Emmaus Community,

As I am sitting here at the computer reflecting on what has transpired in the last few months, I'm reminded of some dear Emmaus friends who are, at this very moment, with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is not possible to imagine how wonderful heaven will be, to stand at the throne of God and be in awe, even after 10,000 years.  The glory of heaven awaits.

And still, God calls us to serve Him where we are. He assigned us the task of being His light to a troubled world. And part of being an Emmaus member is actively serving in a local church and in your community. Our first priority is within the local church. Ask God for guidance. Where is God calling you to minister?  Who should you encourage?  A family member, a neighbor, a fellow worker, someone involved within your church or community? As a part of the body of Christ, allow me to encourage you to pray. Pray for

family members, for church leaders and members, for our nation's leaders, for the people of all nations.

As well, continue to pray for the summer Chrysalis and aall Walks.  Pray for the leadership, sponsors, caterpillars and pilgrims.  Your support in sponsoring and participating in Love Teams is vital to our Emmaus and Chrysalis community.

And keep your eyes toward heaven and to the Author and Perfector of our Faith, Jesus Christ.

In Him, Ron Wagar

MEN’S WALK #55 - "MIRRORED HERE"

October 24-27, 2002 - 1st United Methodist Church, Vancouver, WA

Greetings, in Christ's name, from your servants, Bill and Jim. God has been so gracious in supplying us with a full team this early in the Walk. For those who would like to support this Walk, we still need help

on both the Saturday Night Love Team (Chair is Mariana Peters), and/or Sunday Love Team (Chair is Linda Wagar). There is no application neededto work these teams, just give them a call. These two teams are in many ways the most important on the Walk, so please help fill them.

Don't forget to sponsor a pilgrim and if you are sponsoring, come join us for Send Off, Candlelight, and Closing. Please remember the pilgrim, teams, and us in your prayer.

 In His love and ours,

Lay Director, Bill Loos, 503-284-2598, e-mail: billyloos(at)aol.com

Vice Director,  Jim Wastradowski, 360-573-6393

In His Service,

Lay Director,  Suzie Wuitschick, 360-254-5000, suziew(at)quixnet.net

CHRYSALIS NEWS

Oregon Trails Chrysalis is excited to present an opportunity for the whole community to participate in a National Chrysalis Training presented by the Chrysalis International Director, Reverend Sharlyn DeHaven Gates. The training will take place at McMinnville UMC on June 22nd from 12-6 p.m. You do not need to have any previous Chrysalis experience to attend. For more information, questions, or directions, please e-mail beckisekerak(at)hotmail.com <mailto:beckisekerak(at)hotmail.com> or call Becki at (503)775-8376.

BOYS CHRYSALIS #9 – “MASTERPIECE OF GOD” – McMinnville UMC, August 8-11, 2002

Please pray and work toward filling the Cocoon.  We have the beautiful and bountiful space.  Now the need is to full it with God’s children, love and grace.  With the love and grace of God there will be blessings upon blessing and the Caterpillars will fly. Send in those sponsor forms, and be in prayer throughout the flight.  Come in person and see the work our Lord can do at send off and candlelight. Come to closing and hear His word through the born again butterflies of Boys Flight #9.

Lay Director: Ed Clark, 503-472-3574, e-mail: edmona(at)msn.com

Youth Lay Director, Brian Bixler

GIRLS CHRYSALIS #17 – ‘AMAZINE LOVE” – McMinnville UMC, August 15-18, 2002

Please be a part of this weekend, and of moving the new caterpillars closer to Jesus.  Plan on attending the candlelight service on Saturday evening, and/or serving on a Saturday or Sunday Love team.  This agape love for the team is really appreciated. Above all, pray about whom to sponsor for the weekend.  Sponsorship is a good way to share with others the agape love we received during our own Walk or Chrysalis.  Pray and ask God whom He would like to be here this weekend.  Then put your intentions into action by sponsoring.

ROOSTER BOOSTER STAFF CHANGE

This will be the last issue for your current Rooster Booster production staff. Editor Melisse Laing, Production manager Jan Cox, and Mailing coordinator Karen Haines are relinquishing our positions after more than three years. We have thoroughly enjoyed putting the Rooster Booster together but feel it’s time to “pass the baton” … or in our case the computers.

We highly recommend these positions to any of you who would like to help our Emmaus community, be “on top” of what’s happening, and spread the good news to all of our members. The positions are not difficult and take a minimum amount of time. We have put together descriptions for all three jobs and will be happy to get you started. If you’re interested, please contact Board President Ron Wagar, 360-254-8818, rwagar(at)pacifier.com

I personally would like to thank Jan and Karen for their fantastic help; I couldn’t have done it without them. I would also like to thank Carl Sullivan and Ron Stull for their assistance and patience, Duane Sich who helped us set these up as “real” jobs, and Gloria Gibbs who has contributing “fillers” over the years. Thank you also to past board president Don Bodine (and Sally, of course) and current president Ron Wagar (and Linda, too). And last, but far from least, I would like all of you who have contributed, have switched from regular to e-mail versions and who have read our issues. God bless you!

Outgoing editor, Melisse Laing

LOVE TEAM PLEA

Workers needed! Not only are the fall Walks well under way, so are the events in McMinnville for the summer Chrysalis’.  We are REALLY in need of many hands for love teams.   These teams are so important for many reasons.  First of all, the churches are gracious to allow us to “infiltrate” them for several weekends in a row.  We want to repay them for their generosity.  Second, the teams that have ministered all weekend are very tired.  We serve the Body of Christ well to go in and relieve these tired, aching people who look forward to the relief we can bring.

The summer Walks will be August 8-11 and 15-18.  We need many hands for Saturday and Sunday Love Teams who will be instrumental in… not only cleaning… but setting up and taking down several areas in the church in order to accommodate the large community we will have in attendance.

The Fall Walks will be at First UMC in Vancouver on Octover 24-27 and November 7-10.  This is a large church and we need as many hands as possible to clean it up and set things right again.

Please help us plan these teams well in advance of the events.  We struggle to find willing hands and wonder why this is the case.  Won’t you help?  Look for additional information in future Rooster Boosters but don’t wait to sign up!  Let’s make this year the best ever for participation on our Love Teams.

For further information or TO SIGN UP… please call Linda Wagar- 360-254-8818 or email liwagar(at)juno.com.

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS

John Rahm is compiling a complete – he hopes - list of all those that have been or would like to be on a music team. This would be very beneficial in choosing music teams.  We also are talking about getting together once every two or three months to go over music so we all know how the songs are done. Please send your name, address, phone number and email to John Rahm, 1614 NW 105th Street, Vancouver, WA  98685, 360-574-0779, e-mail CMPTRMN1(at)attbi.com

WHY NO SUMMER WALKS

There will be no summer walk in the Bend area.  This was supposed to be an outreach walk, organized by folks in Central Oregon and supported, staffed, and funded by our community in hopes of establishing another community in Central Oregon.  However, as we talked with the folks in Bend who were heading it up, we determined that it was a "stretch" at this time to be able to schedule the walk at this time. We are still considering the Summer Walk for possibly a Summer 2003 time frame.
